Unlike the famous silk & wool "Ardabil Carpets" - the oldest dated carpets, on display at the Victoria and Albert Museum and the Los Angeles County Museum of Art - which, despite their name, were very likely made in Kashan, true Ardebil carpets are generally thin village rugs characterised by geometric Caucasian designs. They are made on a vertical loom, using the Turkish knot, with wool or wool & cotton. Ardebil carpets tend to have a relatively low knot count.
